// CHAPTER 01 · The trip

Japan in deep winter is a different kind of quiet. Snow stacks in the birch, roads empty after dark, and the tunnels light up like a set you did not build. We went for the powder and came back with a field film we call Powder Hounds. Tree runs through soft Japow. Night roads with headlights cutting the storm. Travel frames that sit between storm cycles. Shot the way we shoot at home: close to the mountain, honest about the cold, cut while the trip was still warm. No staged hero shot. No deck. Just the season as it landed, framed for the screen.
